My Baby is Two Years Old!

It's is hard to believe that my little baby is already two years old. I know every parent can relate when I say that it seems like only yesterday, but at the same time, like she has been a part of our family forever.
I took Evelynn to her pediatrician this week, and it was only good news. Dr. Marcy (or as Evelynn says Darcy Marcy - and no that's not her first name!) told us that Evelynn was developing great, and growing normally. She weighed 24 pounds and was 34 inches...pretty much stayed at the same percentiles, so we are pleased.
Evelynn still enjoys reading, and has started reading by herself a little now too. Well, I should say she now knows the stories well enough that she pretends she is reading the words. Very cute.

What is even cuter than that though, is that little crack that she flashed me when she reached for another book!

This is one of Evelynn's most favorite spots in the house, under the dining room table.

On this day it looks like she had taken her afternoon snack into her "fort" - grapes and some wheat crackers.
As far as other developments, we are just beginning the dreaded "terrible twos." I used to laugh at parents who talked about this phase of life, but let me tell you, it's no joke! I am so exhausted from having to be so consistent in my training and disciplining of Evelynn each day, that I practically fall into bed. I know a lot of this probably has to do with being pregnant, but Evelynn really is testing her boundaries, and seeing just how far she can push us these days. I am pleased to say that we are winning this war, slowly but surely. Today I asked Evelynn, "Do you know what Mommy is going to say?" and she promptly replied "Spanking." I just smiled and said, "Yep." Obedience has never been a difficult thing for Evelynn in the past, but this new phase of testing her independence has definitely made me thankful for the foundation we have already laid with Evelynn in the past. I can only imagine how hard this would be if I had let her win "battles" in the past!

Jungle Gym for our Little Monkey

For Evelynn's second birthday, we thought it only appropriate to build our little monkey her own jungle gym!
Grandparents from both sides came to help us build Brad's creation, and Evelynn was incredibly excited to have all of her family around.
Evelynn couldn't wait for the slide to be put up, so she got a few practice slides in while it was still on the ground.

It was a lot of hard work, but the boys did an excellent job putting up the jungle gym. Brad still has the final touches to do, but all of the big stuff was complete by the end of the weekend!

Evelynn was a little nervous about going down the slide for the first time, probably because we had made such a big deal out of it. Anyway, she got to go down it once with me...

...and I think she has already been down it at least a thousand times since then, solo of course.

A Monkey Party!

We celebrated Evelynn's second birthday this past Labor Day weekend with a Monkey party!
Evelynn is clearly thinking, what's going on?

She blows out her candle! Woohoo!

Enjoying her monkey cupcake!
